Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask us about Quick Checklist, answered plainly.

Is Quick Checklist really free?

Yes. The free plan has no time limit and needs no account or card. It covers up to 5 active notes and checklists, one image per note, and shows a small ad. Premium at $2 a month raises the limit to 100 items, removes ads, and syncs across devices.

Do I need to create an account?

Not for the free plan. Your notes are written straight into your browser's storage the moment you type them. An account is only needed if you subscribe to Premium and want notes synced between devices.

Where are my notes actually stored?

In your browser's IndexedDB storage, on the device you are using. They are not uploaded anywhere unless you turn on Premium sync. This also means notes do not automatically appear on your other devices on the free plan.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Quick Checklist is a progressive web app with a service worker, so it opens and works with no connection at all. Everything you write offline is saved locally straight away.

Why did my reminder not notify me?

Two things have to be true. First, your browser must have permission to show notifications for this site. Open Settings, then Notifications, where you can see the current status and send a test notification. Second, on the free plan reminders only fire while Quick Checklist is open in a tab, because there is no server to wake your device. The Reminders screen always shows what is due, whether or not a notification appeared.

Can I get reminders when the app is closed?

Not on the free plan. Delivering a notification to a closed app requires a server to push it, which is exactly the always-on infrastructure the free tier avoids. Guaranteed reminders are part of Premium.

Can I get a daily nudge to check my list?

Yes. Settings, then Notifications, has a daily check-in you can switch on and set to any time. While the app is open at that time it reminds you that you have notes and tasks waiting. It is off by default, because an app that notifies you without asking is an app you uninstall.

Can I install it on my phone?

Yes. Open the site in your phone's browser and choose Add to Home Screen. It then opens full screen like any other app, and works offline.

What happens if I clear my browser data?

Your notes are deleted along with it, because that is where they live. Export a backup from Settings before clearing anything. The app also asks your browser for persistent storage, which makes automatic eviction far less likely.

Can I export my notes?

Yes. Settings has an export that writes every note, checklist and attachment to a single file you can keep or import somewhere else. There is no lock-in and no paid gate on getting your own data out.

Can I reorder my notes manually?

Yes. Drag any note in the list to put it exactly where you want it, or focus a note and use the arrow keys. Your order is saved, and pinned notes still sort above the rest.

How is this different from Google Keep or Todoist?

Both are excellent, and both are account-first, server-first products. Quick Checklist is the opposite trade: no account, no server, instant open, and offline by default. If you want collaboration and integrations, use theirs. If you want a fast private list, use ours.

Do you show ads?

One small banner on the free plan. Premium removes it. We do not sell your data to advertisers, and could not if we wanted to, because your notes never reach us.
